STEP:Extended Proposal/Utilities

From Step Mods | Change The Game

I just want to start by saying that I don't see any issue listing "STEP approved" utilities on either Guide. They are tools rather than mods so having them all in a Pack (to be install on top of Core) doesn't really make much sense, IMO. Listing them on the STEP Guide and pointing to their individual, respective guides makes more sense. Else, if dropped, they may not ever get mentioned at all and many users may not ever know of their value. That should sum up my vote on the tools in this section. What about Optimizer Textures and ConSkyrbe? You still want that in there? Your point makes complete sense, and I like the idea of having them listed on both guides. DoubleYou (talk) 00:24, February 26, 2014 (EST)

Not necessarily. That is why I said, "STEP approved" utilities. I don't know of anyone that uses those two you mentioned. Techangel85 (talk) 00:47, February 26, 2014 (EST)

EssArrBee brought up a good point below. If the benchmarking aspect is going to remain part of the Guide then so do all the tools required for said benchmarking. Techangel85 (talk) 10:12, February 28, 2014 (EST)

BOSS Userlist Manager[edit | edit source]

Votes[edit | edit source]

Tick yellow.png I prefer this in a Utilities Pack. Might become unnecessary with BOSS 3 or with MO sorting implementation. DoubleYou (talk) 23:37, February 25, 2014 (EST)
Tick green.png at least for now this is an important utility for most users.Kelmych (talk) 01:28, February 28, 2014 (EST)
Tick green.png To important until BOSS v3 comes out. I first heard about BOSS v3 about a year ago and it still isn't here, so let's keep this. Essarrbee (talk) 02:55, February 28, 2014 (EST)
Tick green.png All utilities deserve a mention in the guide (i.e., Extended). Unless essential for installing STEP, a particular utility should not be Core ~z929669 Ixian Insignia.png Talk 22:02, April 1, 2014 (EDT)

Cross red.png Very useful for modders. We should put together a modders pack. Essarrbee (talk) 02:56, February 28, 2014 (EST)

DDSopt[edit | edit source]

Votes[edit | edit source]

Tick yellow.png I prefer this in a Utilities Pack. DoubleYou (talk) 23:39, February 25, 2014 (EST)
Tick green.png While I don't feel it should necessarily be in Core because it isn't easy to use, for many users it is extremely useful to get better game stability by optimizing the vanilla textures.Kelmych (talk) 01:26, February 28, 2014 (EST)
Tick green.png To me it is Core when we have the bat files to help the install. It takes time, but so does the entire guide. Essarrbee (talk) 02:57, February 28, 2014 (EST)

Optimizer Textures[edit | edit source]

Votes[edit | edit source]

Cross red.png DDSopt is preferable. DoubleYou (talk) 23:39, February 25, 2014 (EST)
Cross red.png Suboptimal compared to DDSOpt. Techangel85 (talk) 19:42, February 26, 2014 (EST)
Cross red.png DDSopt provides more versatile and accurate optimization, and the tools in the STEP DDSopt guide allow optimizing multiple mods at once. Kelmych (talk) 01:22, February 28, 2014 (EST)
Cross red.png I even like SMCO better than this utility. Essarrbee (talk) 02:57, February 28, 2014 (EST)
Cross red.png DDSopt is the only texture-opt utility that STEP should support. ~z929669 Ixian Insignia.png Talk 22:02, April 1, 2014 (EDT)

Changed my mind, as I agree with Essarrbee's point. This is essential for benchmarking. --DoubleYou (talk) 07:01, March 3, 2014 (EST)
Cross red.png this is a useful utility but not a critical one and belongs in a utilities pack.Kelmych (talk) 01:29, February 28, 2014 (EST)
Tick green.png This is essential for new users trying to figure out their performance when they get into STEP. It helps benchmark and should maybe even be Core. Essarrbee (talk) 02:59, February 28, 2014 (EST)

Tick yellow.png I prefer this in Core. DoubleYou (talk) 23:39, February 25, 2014 (EST)
Tick yellow.png This is a core utility for Skyrim, if for no other purpose than cleaning the vanilla plugins to prevent problems that occur when they are not cleaned. Kelmych (talk) 01:30, February 28, 2014 (EST)
Tick green.png Why is this in Extended? Shame on us. Essarrbee (talk) 03:00, February 28, 2014 (EST)
