LATEST UPDATE v2.2.0a | Updated: 24 September 2012

RECENT NEWS
- 24 December
Because of SRO's removal and TPC's reliance on it, we're forced to re-incorporate the TPC mods back into STEP. Because of this we've decided to forego a hotfix and release a full-blown update, including a ton of new mods! Head over to the STEP Community Boards to see what's changing and help out.

- 7 December
Working on a STEP 2.2.0b hotfix to address some breakage caused by the latest TESV release. This will be a very minor update. Expect a slight change in our presentation format. Coming soon, but if you want a sneak peak check out this thread for our working changelog.

- 1 November
Previous scheduled releases have been scrapped. We have been working exclusively on the Wiki and Thunderbolt for a while now. When we get back to the STEP pdf it will likely be with a less is more attitude (less mods, less installation, higher quality).

- 24 September-
This is a minor revision to the PDF that includes modifications to a very small number of STEP mods revealed by TESEdit to contain structural errors. See the PDF for details!

- 27 August -
STEP v2.2.0 is out! A completely re-designed guide with over 90 mod changes from v2.1.1b, updated for Skyrim v1.7 and compatible with Dawnguard. Thank you everyone for for helping in this project, it couldn't happen without the amazing community we've built!

STEP is conceived as a device to help people explore complex modding (using many utilities and hundreds of mods together) and provide a base of knowledge and experience that will aid in becoming independent and informed modders able to create their own custom mod lists. The STEP mod list is merely a vehicle to get people started on that path by providing a stable and lore friendly base to expand from.

STEP is about enhancing vanilla Skyrim

Texture replacements at minimized performance cost and true to vanilla Skyrim

Continuity of all in-game textures, reducing immersion-breaking variation in texture quality (i.e., comparable resolution and style across all armors, weapons, clutter, terrain, etc.).

Graphical mods (ESPs) including new content that "fits" vanilla Skyrim

Gameplay mods that improve the consistency and the intent of vanilla Skyrim

Interface mods which improve the menus and UI for the PC interface

Sound mods that enhance the intent of vanilla Skyrim

Fix mods that truly "fix" malfunctioning aspects of vanilla Skyrim
STEP is NOT about ...

Content mods that conflict with vanilla Skyrim and/or TES lore

Mods that change the intent of vanilla Skyrim

Graphics mods that contrast with vanilla Skyrim in terms of appearance and practicality

Music replacement mods

Gameplay overhauls (unless they truly enhance the intent of vanilla Skyrim)
Currently STEP is mostly focused on graphics, interface and polishing/refining the gameplay with bugfixes and small tweaks. STEP also does extensive reliability and compatibility testing and will be including optional gameplay packs in the future. If you have reached the point where you are able to do your own reliability and compatibility testing and are also interested in additional and deeper gameplay mods, check this out:
