I'm a die-hard TES player and a minor modder. I did the largest amount of mod playtesting for OpenMW (the modern, open-source game engine for Morrowind). Hundreds of mods tested, plus a complete companion (follower) guide, which is mostly also of use to players of the original Bethesda engine: Darklocq's Mod Testing Notes.

Since then, I've been doing Oblivion and then Skyrim, in a Windows VM under macOS. Painful at times.

Anyway, I'm Darklocq on all the relevant forums and sites (ElderScrolls.fandom.com, UESP, Nexus, MW.ModHistory.com, etc.). Wiki-wise, I mostly focus on The Elder Scrolls Wiki at Fandom/Wikia.

On STEP

Not sure what-all I will do here yet. This site is pretty well-maintained. Last time I was on here as a "following the STEPs" user, I did encounter one error. It was something about ENB configs that no longer pertained to the then-current version of ENB nor several versions before it – it was a setting that had changed name, moved between config files, or been removed; I don't really remember. But I was in process of packing to move and doing other real-world stuff and had to put the gaming aside. I didn't get around to logging in and fixing it. Now it's two years later and I'm back, and figure the issue has probably been fixed by now, but I will deal with it if I run into it again. — Darklocq ^☎ ¢ 05:28, February 19, 2020 (UTC)

I'm now going through a STEP 3.0.0 setup of Skyrim Legendary Edition. I mean really, really going through it. I've been taking notes on errors of omission, FOMOD options that no longer match what STEP says is in them, obsolete mods STEP is still recommending and what should replace them, mods STEP recommended that are not actually compatible with USLEP (and in several cases I've written patches for them), and so on. It may literally take a few months to work up a completed revision recommendation, since I'll have to finish the setup, then test the hell out of everything. But LE isn't going to die any time soon, and while STEP has generally moved on from it to SE, it should still give correct and applicable advice for LE, even if the LE guide is not going to be updated to recommend "new cool stuff" any longer. — Darklocq ^☎ ¢ 07:27, June 6, 2021 (UTC)
