STEP 15: PATCHES

Part A: Merged Patches

LOOT

  • TOOL
Run LOOT one final time before creating the patches below.
Prior to running LOOT again (installing new mods, removing mods, making changes to load order, etc.), disable everything in Step 15 first.
Once done, re-enable each mod in Step 15 one at a time. Ensure that each one is not missing a master and/or consider any other changes and how they may affect the patches below (particularly the Dynamic Patches).
If in doubt, rebuild the patches.

Merge: Merge tagged files with zEdit. Move the Merged mod to the bottom of this Step, activate it, and disable the plugins via MO2's Merge Plugins Hide function. 

Part B: Dynamic Patches

NPC Patch

Better Dynamic Snow Patch

  • TOOL
    ESL

The Better Dynamic Snow Patcher will automatically patch your load order for use with Better Dynamic Snow.

1. In MO2, launch SSEEdit, ensure all mods are selected, and click [OK].
2. In the left pane, right-click anywhere on your mod list and select [Apply Script].
3. In the [Script] drop-down box, select BetterDynamicSnowPatcher and click [OK]. Name it Better Dynamic Snow Patch.
4. Click [Yes] to any Confirm message pop-ups.
5. Exit SSEEdit once complete, saving the Better Dynamic Snow Patch plugin.
6. Back in MO2, right-click [Overwrite], select [Create Mod...], and name it Better Dynamic Snow Patch, and activate the mod.

This patch can be flagged as ESL with SSE Edit after completion.

Lootable Firewood Piles Patch

  • TOOL

This patch will ensure firewood piles are lootable per the mod. Note: When loading SSEEdit for this procedure, do NOT skip building references (do not hold [Shift] when selecting [OK] to your load order.

1. In MO2, launch SSEEdit, ensure all mods are selected, and click [OK].
2. In the left pane, right-click anywhere on your mod list and select [Apply Script].
3. In the [Script] drop-down box, select WiZkiD Lootable Firewood Piles and click [OK]. Name it Lootable Firewood Piles Patch.
4. Click [Yes] to any Confirm message pop-ups.
5. Exit SSEEdit once complete, saving the Lootable Firewood Piles Patch plugin.
6. Back in MO2, right-click [Overwrite], select [Create Mod...], and name it Lootable Firewood Piles Patch, and activate the mod.

Smashed Patch

  • TOOL

The Smashed Patch will help resolve many conflicts between mods.

1. Create an empty mod named Smashed Patch. Activate it and add it to the Mator Smash executable under the Create files in mod instead of overwrite (*) field.
2. Run [Mator Smash] from the executables.
3. In the pop-up window, select the [Skyrim SE] icon and click [OK].
4. Ensure all mods are selected in the next window, and click [OK].

Setup Mator Smash to build the patch:

1. Under the [Plugins] tab, highlight every mod with the exception of the Skyrim.esm at the top.
2. Right-click any mod while they are all highlighted, and select [Add to patch] and [<New Patch>].
3. Change NewPatch in both fields to Smashed Patch and click [OK].
4. Leave the default setting for mods that are already set with tags.
5. Change the setting of mods without a tag (Skip) by right-clicking >> [Smash Settings] >> [Smash] >> [Smash.All].

With all the tags set, complete the patch by clicking [Build patches] (hammer icon). When done, exit Mator Smash, and activate your new Smashed Patch plugin in the right pane.

Finally - open the newly created Smashed Patch with xEdit. In the left pane of xEdit, expand the Smashed Patch plugin, right click [Activator] (if there is one), and select [Remove] and confirm. You can now close xEdit, saving the Smashed Patch.

Emili - SkyRem Immersion Series AIO

Nemesis

  • TOOL

The Nemesis Engine will patch your load order for animations.

1. Create an empty mod named Nemesis Output. Activate it and add it to the Nemesis executable under the Create files in mod instead of overwrite (*) field.
2. Launch the Nemesis Engine in MO2, and click [OK] to any warnings you receive. Click [Update Engine] and wait for any update(s).
3. In the top pane, tick the following options: Animated Armoury FPA, Combat Gameplay Overhaul SE, and Ultimate Combat / TK Dodge
4. Click [Launch Nemesis Behavior Engine]. Once Behavior generation completed appears in the bottom pane, close Nemesis (the green bar may never "finish").
5. [Refresh] MO2, and check that the new Nemesis Output mod has been populated (should have a plugin, meshes, and scripts).

zEdit Patch

  • TOOL

Create zEdit Patches:

1. Run [zEdit] from the executables and select [zEdit] and [Start Session]. Leave your entire Load Order included and click [OK].
2. Click [Manage Patchers] (puzzle icon in upper-right).
3. Change [Know Your Enemy's Armor Patcher] >> Patch armor descriptions? option to [false].
4. Change [Curse of the Firmament Patcher ] >> Assign blessings by... option to [class].
5. Under NPC VisualTransfer, add NPC Patch.ESP.
6. Select [Build Patches]. Run one patcher at a time: Curse of the Firmament Patcher, Know Your Armor Patcher, Know Your Enemy Patcher, and finally zPatch.esp (all options).
7. Check the patcher you want to build (one at a time).
8. Click [Build] next to the patchers name and wait until complete. Ensure the new ESP is located at the bottom of your Load Order in the left pane.
9. Repeat the process for each patcher above before moving to the next set of directions.

Exit zEdit, saving the patches (there will be 4 plugins). At the bottom of the left pane in MO2, right-click [Overwrite] and select [Create mod...]. Name the new mod zEdit Patch and activate it. They should be ordered as follows (in the right pane):

Install

xLODGen

  • TOOL

Note: This process can take a while. Anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours.

1. Activate Tamriel Terrain in the let pane, and move the ESM file to the top of the right pane. Run [xLODGen] from the executables.
2. In the left pane, right-click and [Select All].
3. In the right pane, only select [Terrain LOD] (Objects and Trees will be handled by the other tools).
4. In the Terrain Lod box, use the following settings:
   LOD4: Quality 0, Build Diffuse Size 512, Build Normal Size 512, Format BC7 Quick, Check Protect Borders, Uncheck both MipMaps, Check Bake Normal-Map, Default Size Diffuse and Normal 256.
   LOD8: Quality 2, Build Diffuse Size 512, Build Normal Size 512, Format BC7 Quick, Set Optimize Unseen to On, Uncheck both MipMaps, Check Bake Normal-Map, Default Size Diffuse and Normal 256.
   LOD16: Quality 4, Build Diffuse Size 256, Build Normal Size 256, Format BC7 Quick, Set Optimize Unseen to On, Uncheck both MipMaps, Check Bake Normal-Map, Default Size Diffuse and Normal 256.
   LOD32: Quality 4, Build Diffuse Size 512, Build Normal Size 512, Format BC7 Quick, Set Optimize Unseen to 550, Uncheck both MipMaps, Check Bake Normal-Map, Default Size Diffuse and Normal 256.
5. Set [Default size: Diffuse] and [Normal] both to 128, and check [Bake normal-maps].
6. Click [Generate].
7. When you receive the LOD Generator: finished, close xLODGen.
8. Setting the arguments field as detailed in First Steps will place the files directly into the xLODGen Output mod. Refresh MO2 and find it at the bottom of the left pane. Activate it now.

If using Paper World Map (II-02-A), you will need to hide a couple files generated by this xLODGen for the map to appear as intended. You can do this quickly and easily through MO2's interface:

1. [Double-click] the xLODGen Output, and go to the [Conflicts] tab.
2. With the [General] (not Advanced) tab selected, click [Overwritten Mods] to sort the list in the top window.
3. This should bring two files to the top listing Paper World Map as being overwritten.
4. [Right-click] each of these and select [Hide], then close the window.

TexGen

  • TOOL
1. Deactivate Tamriel Terrain.
2. Run [TexGen] from the executables.
3. In the pop-up, change [Select Output Path] to X:\Tools\Mod Organizer\Mods\TexGen Output.
4. [Select LOD Texture Size] to 512. Leave the four boxes below this on [Default (BC7 Quick)]. Click [Start].
5. When done, [Exit] TexGen and refresh MO2 to see that your TexGen Output mod now has textures. Activate it now.

DynDOLOD

  • TOOL

OPTIONAL: Ultra Tree LODs

1. In the DynDOLOD/Edit Scripts/DynDOLOD/Cache folder, delete all files except becauseofreasons.txt.
2. In the DynDOLOD/Edit Scripts/DynDOLOD folder, open DynDOLOD_SSE.ini file and change TREELOD=1 to TREELOD=0. Save and exit.
3. Follow the instructions below, with the exception of #5. Instead of selecting [Medium], you must select [High] or Ultra Trees will not work.

All LOD Generation

1. Run [DynDOLOD] from the executables.
2. In the pop-up click [Advanced>>>].
3. In the next window, right-click in the upper left box and choose [Select all].
4. Change [Output Path] to X:\Mod Organizer\Mods\DynDOLOD Output.
5. In the upper right: Click [Medium] (or [High] if doing the Ultra Tree LODs optional step above) and check both [Candles] and [FXGlow].
6. In the bottom box: Check all options EXCEPT [Use original LOD assignments] and [Upgrade NearGrid Large Refs].
7. Still in the bottom box: Change [Max tile size] to 512 (to match TexGen).
8. Click [OK].
9. When done, [Exit] DynDOLOD and refresh MO2 to see that your DynDOLOD Output mod is complete. Activate it now. Move the ESM file to the top of your load order.

xLODGen Occlusion Generator

  • TOOL
1. Launch xLODGen Occlusion in MO2.
2. [Right Click] in the left pane (Select Worldspaces) and [Select All].
3. On the right, select only Occlusion (deselect Terrain LOD).
4. Use the following settings, and click [Generate]:
    Quality: 3
    Height: 100
    Radius: 100
    Mode: -Flat +Border
5. Close xLODGEN when complete.
6. Activate the xLODGEN Occlusion Output mod in the left pane, and ensure the plugin is active (checked) in the right pane.

PRIORITY V CHECK

VERIFY: Ensure your counts are as follows (if following the guide 100%).
- Mods: 800
- Plugins: 242 (ESMs = 19, ESPs = 183, ESLs = 40)

STARTUP

Part A: Starting New Game

It is time. Start a new game and create your character (Race, Gender, and Appearance). Once done, it will take a few minutes for all of the mods to register and the game to setup. Monitor the notifications to ensure nothing unusual occurs (something not found, something did not load properly, errors, etc.) As these notifications run, several mods will have windows that pop-up and await input (may appear in a different order, but mine show as follows consistently):

The Curator's Companion: Select [OK]
Taxes of Skyrim: Select [OK]
Pay Your Dues: Select [OK]
Animated Armory: Select [OK]
Animated Armory: Select [OK]
The Curator's Companion: Select [Scan Later]
The Curator's Companion: Select [OK] (Should show 48 Patches Configured)
Attributes: Hit [No]

You will also have the following mods complete a startup Quest:

Hunterborn
Helgen Reborn

Once the notification menu is quite, move on to the MCM recommendations. Skip the following MCMs until you exit the LAL Cell: Frostfall, Hunterborn, and SunHelm. These run a Quest that results in providing experience upon completion (enough to level-up once or twice before even starting the game).

Use the Mara statue to choose your start, and sleep in the bed to get going.

Once in game, complete the following:

Select a deity (Wintersun), if you choose to, in the pop-up.
Allow the appropriate quests to start / run and a few more notifications to display.
Once you are all clear again, use your powers to Setup Attributes.
After saving your attributes, use the Reflect power to choose your background.

Once all of the above is done, you can level up if you choose, and complete the remaining MCMs (Frostfall, Hunterborn, and SunHelm). You should now be about halfway to level 4 on the experience bar.

Begin your adventure.

I hope you have enjoyed the journey as you are now ready to begin a new (actually playing). The tricky part is turning off the modding "switch" and immerse yourself in the game. It is easy to get caught up in the cycle of mod, test, update, add mod, remove mod, test, update, etc. without ever being able to complete a game. If you are here... do not look for updates or more mods. Play. I have began taking notes as I play for things I would like to add/remove/change, and focus on that the next go round. Otherwise it would be never ending.
